PAINTING

Harry Birkholz

Has studied with Dr. Schwarzfeld in Cologne and with Dieter Lukas-Larsen in Düsseldorf.

His work has been exhibited since 1975, first in Germany, where he is born, then in Belgium since 1992.

After a long period of oil painting and watercolors, he is working now in a non-conventional way using many different quality papers and techniques: : watercolor, acrylic, pencil, inks, pastels, collage…

Inspired from the very ancient scripture “the RIG VEDA” since 2002, he is painting on canvas with acrylic and drawing in books, each drawing illustrating every hymn of that sacred scripture. This artwork totalizes 1028 pages in 10 volumes.

His mastering of painting allows him for an immediate and spontaneous expression, as well as for figurative and sophisticated compositions. To adopt only one single approach is a too narrow limitation to him. The spirit in which he creates is that of freedom: “I am the style”. The way his vision manifests has many facets, each of them reflecting the humanity of his artistic individuality.

The themes he keeps searching are :
-the perfection of the first moments of life
-the ancient cultures
-the city as a meeting place for humans
-memories from American landscapes
-visual realization of music.

Since his childhood Harry BIRKHOLZ is a visionary and has an access to an inner world where colors and lights shine all their brightness. He wants to be their witness and spokesperson of this inner reality.

He is a musician too. End of 1998, he has recorded some of his music compositions: the CD’s title is «USHA over the Eastern Plains ».

Harry BIRKHOLZ devotes his professional life also to the teaching of painting, within the framework of the USHA organization, the “Ligue de l’Enseignement et de l’Education Permanente” and the “Service de la Culture de la Province de Namur”.

His approach using many facets, playful, dynamic and very modern of how to transmit techniques has allowed him to guide dozens of students to open and develop their artist souls and exhibit their work in many places.
